* Warhammer 40,000 Campaign Round 5

After last week’s defeat at the hands of the Orks, I managed to pull out a solid victory against Mark B’s Tau Empire. This round is Kill Team, a very cut-down but surprisingly tactical variant of 40K. The general theme is that one team is attacking a heavily-defended enemy position in order to steal something/assassinate somebody/set fire to their toes/etc. You play through twice, swapping sides the second time around, so both players get to be both attacker and defender.
My 160 points as attacker bought me 6 statted-up Genestealers against 18 Gun Drones. My plan was to try and assault turn one, then “sweep and advance” into another unit, and so on until I reached the objective, therefore minimising Mark’s chance of shooting me down. This worked beautifully until I had to sit on the target area for a whole turn, wherein I lost 4 ‘Stealers to Tau gunfire. Thankfully I still had 2 left with which to make my escape, taking another squad of Drones with me on the way out.
On the flipside Mark fielded a Kroot party, breaking a couple of rules along the way – if you break any of these rules your opponent gets an extra couple of Brute Squads, plus some points to spend on your Boss or Specialist Equipment. In the end I had 33 (!) Termagants armed with Fleshborers, plus one maxed-out as my Boss. The Tau tactic was similar to mine; keep moving from one assault to the next and don’t get shot. Unfortunately, due to me having so many troops on the board, I was easily able to cover every angle and prevent Mark from making a run on the objective. As more and more Klaxon counters got added to my pile, more and more units became aware of the enemy and were able to shoot. In the end he was taking 15 S4 shots a round which proved too much, even for his multi-wound characters.
So, I won both scenarios and came away with a solid victory. The other Kill Team games have yet to be played, but you can view the updated table below.
The next round’s games probably won’t be played for a couple of weeks as two of our group are on holiday, so I won’t list the next batch of games until this round is over. We’re lining up some friendlies for the next few weeks in the meantime, starting with a 500 point Combat Patrol against the Tau – but this time I’ll be using my new Necrons. Two shooty armies battling it out should prove to be a good laugh!

Mark biggest mistake was not going in the building when he had his squad at full strength a +4 cover save is way better than a +6 save.
Not played the Orks yet after Chris saying he had broke 1 rule and he actually broke 3. Should hopefully be doing it tomorrow night.

Why does that not surprise me… He should have just handed the game to you to be honest. Looking forward to the Combat Patrol though; I’m dying to see just how tough the Necrons actually are.

At least you beat Tau with your Necrons even if you can’t beat Imperials
